The Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D), with the support of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, organized the 6th Istanbul Carbon Summit this year, focusing on carbon trading and Turkey’s fight against climate change. The summit, held at Istanbul Technical University's certified green campus, honored recipients of the “Low Carbon Hero Awards.”

Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, faculty member at Istanbul Technical University and president of SÜT-D, emphasized that low-carbon growth in industry is possible and highlighted the need to support such initiatives. She explained that the “Low Carbon Hero Award” is presented to institutions that successfully manage their carbon emissions and conduct effective carbon accounting by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Prof. Dr. Karaosmanoğlu stated that they received a record number of applications this year, showing the increasing importance of the green economy in Turkey. She added that applications were evaluated based on SÜT-D’s mission to promote a sustainable lifestyle and raise awareness about carbon management. The awards recognized both technical implementations and efforts in training and awareness on carbon reduction. She concluded, “We are proud of each of the 29 Low Carbon Heroes selected for 2019.”

Among the award-winning achievements in carbon management in facilities and products were: Waste Heat Recovery in Enervis Aluminum Melting Furnace, Escon’s Most Energy-Efficient Food Plant, Green Chemicals’ Single-Bath Coating with Zero Carbon Footprint Without Energy, Thermax’s Waste Heat Recovery in Large Facilities, Aluform Pekintaş’s Solar-Based Production, Low Carbon Footprint Products, Nuh Cement’s Low Carbon Footprint Cement Formulation, and BSH Turkey’s Climate-Friendly Surface Cleaning practices.
